An eScript is an electronic prescription issued by an AHPRA-registered doctor that is sent directly to your phone via SMS or to your email.
Yes. Electronic or online prescriptions issued by an AHPRA-registered doctor are valid and accepted at pharmacies across Australia.
You must have either a Medicare card or an Individual Health Identifier (IHI) to receive an eScript.
If your prescription request is approved, the doctor will send you a unique QR barcode known as a 'token' via SMS or email, which can be presented at any pharmacy.

No. All prescriptions are issued at the doctor’s discretion based on clinical assessment.
Certain high-risk, restricted, or monitored medications, including Schedule 8 (S8) and certain Schedule 4D (S4D) medicines cannot be prescribed via telehealth. This includes, but is not limited to: diazepam (Valium), clonazepam, lorazepam, temazepam, oxazepam, alprazolam, oxycodone (Endone/OxyContin), tramadol, codeine-containing painkillers, pregabalin (Lyrica), gabapentin, zolpidem (Stilnox), zopiclone, quetiapine (Seroquel), phentermine (Duromine), lisdexamfetamine (Vyvanse), modafinil, dexamphetamine, methylphenidate (Ritalin/Concerta), and anabolic steroids.
Authority-required or specialist-only medications and first-time prescriptions for specialist-only medications are also not issued via telehealth.
Some medications, such as controlled or high-risk prescription medicines, cannot be prescribed online. If this applies, no eScript will be issued, the consultation will not proceed, and your payment will be refunded.
Telehealth may not be appropriate for complex conditions or when a physical examination is required. In these cases, in-person care is recommended.
