Frequently Asked Questions – Hello Doctor

Please reach us at support@hellodoctor.au if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Hello Doctor is a private telehealth service providing phone consultations with an AHPRA-registered doctor across Australia. We offer medical certificates, prescriptions, and specialist referrals — all handled quickly, conveniently, and securely over the phone.

Yes — our telehealth services are available nationwide.

Yes — all of our telehealth services require a phone consultation with an AHPRA-registered doctor.

Consultations are typically brief and focused, usually lasting around 8–10 minutes.

General consultations are suitable for minor health concerns such as cold and flu symptoms, mild infections, skin conditions, and general medical advice when you’re unsure what’s going on.

Telehealth is not suitable for serious, urgent, or life-threatening conditions. If your condition is severe or worsening, please seek in-person medical care or call 000.

Yes — certificates issued by an AHPRA-registered doctor are generally accepted by workplaces, schools, and universities.

If clinically appropriate, your certificate is usually sent within minutes after your consultation.

Yes — we offer both one-day and multi-day certificates depending on your needs and clinical assessment.

You need to provide your full name, date of birth, email address, mobile number, and residential address. We’ll also ask for details about your condition and any supporting information needed for the certificate.

No. Medical certificates cannot be backdated. In Australia, doctors are expected to issue certificates based on the date of the consultation. This ensures the certificate accurately reflects the patient’s condition at the time of assessment and maintains professional and ethical standards.

An eScript is an electronic prescription issued by an AHPRA-registered doctor that is sent directly to your phone via SMS or to your email.

You must have either a Medicare card or an Individual Health Identifier (IHI) to receive an eScript.

No — certain medications cannot be prescribed via telehealth due to regulations and clinical guidelines.

Some medications, such as controlled or high-risk prescription medicines, cannot be prescribed online. If this applies, no eScript will be issued, the consultation will not proceed, and your payment will be refunded. Your doctor will advise on alternative options, including seeing a doctor in person if required.

You may request up to three medications per consultation. This depends on your clinical needs and will be determined by the doctor during your consultation.

A specialist referral is a letter from a doctor that allows you to see a medical specialist for further assessment or treatment.

If you require a different service (e.g. a prescription or referral), a separate consultation may be required depending on your needs.

All documents (certificates, prescriptions, and referrals) are sent digitally via SMS or email if clinically appropriate.

Yes — all documents are issued by an AHPRA-registered doctor and meet professional standards.
